Mohamed ElBaradei is the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) - it’s his job to get the world to like nuclear as an alternative fuel despite the controversy around it. It’s also his job to make sure that countries with atomic capabilities use it with care, good intention and not as a weapon. Dr ElBaradei has gained international respect and support over the years, resulting in him being reappointed as Director General of the agency for a third term since first being assigned in 1997.

Dr ElBaradei started his diplomatic career in 1964 when he served in the Permanent Missions of Egypt to the United Nations. During his career as a diplomat, international civil servant and scholar, he has become very familiar with the inner workings and processes of international organisations around the world.

In 2005, Dr ElBaradei was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for “efforts to prevent nuclear energy from being used for military purposes and to ensure that nuclear energy for peaceful purposes is used in the safest possible way”. The Nobel committee referred to ElBaradei as an “unafraid advocate”.
