The Honourable Al Gore
An American the World Needs to Meet

Sustainable Capitalism when a Bailout Won’t Suffice

“The bold steps that are needed to solve the climate crisis are exactly the same steps that ought to be taken in order to solve the economic crisis and the energy security crisis… I have great hope that we will have the courage to embrace the changes necessary to save our economy, our planet and ultimately ourselves”.

- Al Gore, The New York Times, November 9, 2008

Physical changes to the ecological balance of our planet are already having a significant impact on nature, global weather and natural resources, but what are the implications for our businesses? During this undeniably honest presentation – Former Vice President Al Gore will make you consider the broader issue.

Natural resources are fast running out, how can we in  business create alternative options to lessen our dependence on them, not only for personal
benefit but also for the good of the world?
Our economic strategies usually consider growth, financial planning, sales, marketing, competitive analysis and the like. Should we be considering broader areas such as the social, political and environmental issues to give us a less insular and more worldly approach to our businesses?
How the current economic crisis can provide a genuine opportunity to make the right kinds of changes in our businesses for the good of the planet. This is a one off decision we all need to make, hear why!
In recent history there was an illusion in the finance industry that the credit crisis was impossible – that same illusion is believed by many about the effects of climate change – what can we learn from the current economic climate that could give us a chance to save our world and how can we have direct influence in the situation?

"If the prospect of melting ice caps, rising sea levels, changing weather patterns, more frequent hurricanes, more violent tornadoes, endless dust storms, decaying forests, dying coral reefs and increases in respiratory illness and insect-borne diseases--if that doesn't constitute a serious threat,
I don't know what does."
